Agronomic practices in soil water management for sustainable crop production under rain fed agriculture of Drylands in Sub-Sahara Africa

چکیده
Water is one of the very important inputs necessary for production food crops hence, security and rural livelihoods are essentially linked to accessibility water. Eighty percent world’s global agricultural land area under rain-fed; this contributes 58% staple foods. In Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA), reliance on rain-fed agriculture high with 97% moisture needs fulfilled mainly by water stored in soil through rainfall. Due highly unpredictable sporadic seasonal rainfalls SSA, rainfall cannot meet requirements crop growth development resulting lower yields consequent insecurity. It that used efficiently effectively interventions conserve Thus, productivity must be enormously improved particularly SSA where climate dry over 90% activities rainfed. However, uncertainty projections magnitude makes rainfed a real challenge. Therefore, management daily field (agronomic practices) critical constituent adopted current challenge variability, change expected increase demand food. This paper highlights potentials some agronomic practices content. Agronomic such as selection, mulching, fertilization tillage has potential improve content sustainable production. Key words: Soil water, drylands, sub-Sahara Africa, rainfed, practices.

Soil loss and runoff generation in rangeland, rain-fed and abandoned rain-fed agriculture land-uses under simulated rainfall
Soil erosion is a global challenge, seriously threatening soil and water resources andenvironmental qualities. One of the important factors to consider in the process of runoffgeneration and soil erosion is the physical and chemical properties of soils under differentland-uses. The aim of this study is to estimate soil erosion and runoff in rangeland, rain-fedand abandoned rain-fed agriculture ...
متن کاملSoil and crop management under conservation agriculture in Zimbabwe
Carbon mitigation strategies and mechanisms have been globally implemented in an attempt to prevent catastrophic climate change. Kyoto targets require reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and increases in carbon sequestration. Although a number of carbon neutral technologies have been adopted such as bio-fuel and alternative energies, these currently fail to meet global requirements. An innov...
متن کاملRole of Conservative Agriculture on the Sustainability of Soil structure in Achieving Sustainable Management
Conservative agriculture is considered as an alternative to tackle the need for increased agricultural production based on sustainable agriculture activities with the aim of increasing production and product stability along with preserving the environment. Tillage is one of the most important factors affecting soil structure. Selection of appropriate tillage systems varies according to the cond...
متن کاملCervical Cancer in Sub Sahara Africa
The burden of cervical cancer is quite low in the developed countries of the world. The situation is quite the reverse in developing countries where it constitutes a major health problem. While the incidence is decreasing in the former, it is on the increase in the later. This is a source of great concern considering the fact that cervical cancer is preventable and curable at low cost with curr...
